This is a little Halloween story I wrote for my writing group. It's just for fun, but as I'm relatively new to writing I'd appreciate any feedback anyone may have.

I've been reading and researching a couple of genres of writing lately - namely, American folk tales and ballad poems. Some of these have been quite interesting and entertaining. So, I started playing with both and came up with a whopper of a poem (a literal magnum opus!) that tells a story of a water witch who lived in the American midwest at the turn of the 20th century. The poem is narrated in the voice of one of the townsfolk, and tells the story of the water witch and of a terrible tornado that touches down near their town. As was common to the time, acts of nature and/or the unexplainable was attributed to God or other supernatural beings, and the story is perceived and interpreted as such. Sorry this summary is so long - I just wanted to explain the setting. ALSO - be forewarned! If you don't want to read a very LONG poem, this one's not for you! For more intrepid souls, your review and comments are very much appreciated.

The first three chapters introduce you to the main characters and some supporting roles. The setting is painted, and the foundations of the plot laid. Fox is an orphan, and has lived in foster care most of her life. A mysterious man has showed up at the facility she stays at, and claims to be a vampire. What he offers starts a new chapter in her life, but will she be ready for what is about to come? Friends, enemies, and new experiences are just the start. Her life will be forever changed, and she will come face to face with dangers she never could have imagined.

This is a rewrite of the Soul of Fire - Soul of Ice novel I've posted earlier (that version is now removed, as I've changed too much for them to be considered the same story). Let me know what you think. I've changed some of the setting and some of the characters. I've also shortened some of the chapters. A witch is forced to go undercover at the local vampire coven, to try to figure out who is behind the turning of powerful witches and other magical beings into vampires. Can she overcome her hate of vampires long enough to learn to trust her companion Lucas? Will she discover the mystery behind the turnings before it is too late?
